ABSTRACT

Building Information Modelling (BIM) exploits the potential in computer-based modelling technologies to provide a new way of designing buildings and managing design and construction processes. BIM is based on digital models of a building that store information about the project in a way that enables it to be shared across and between different design and construction disciplines. Generally, BIM is recognized as providing wide range of valuable benefits including: design, compliance, costing/economics, construction operation and management. The important decision in clients face is the selection and appointment of the design and construction team. Finding the right team of people with positive approach to using BIM, to sharing information and above all to learning from the experience is key. In this regard, clients expect all their consultants, contractors and specialists to be familiar with BIM and its requirements; to be positively engaged in its adoption; and to be actively developing ways in which processes can be made more value-adding and effective.
