ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a few suggestions that exemplify a lot of the varying tasks one might be expected to perform as a general game animator. The quality of the animation is the single biggest factor, but when competing against animators of equal talent, the way readers’ reel is put together will only help their chances of a callback. Game animation and game development as a whole has become an ever more desirable career as years have progressed. One of the most impressive pieces a prospective student can include in an application is evidence of working on a team and showing work in a game engine. Once a reel has caught the attention of a studio, there is likely one last hurdle to overcome. Virtual reality opens up two new areas related to game animation, one being the type of games game animators can hope to make with new levels of immersion, and the other being new ways of working.
