ABSTRACT

Team makeup is fluid and will change from project to project, but generally individuals housed within a studio are drawn to a particular style of game or studio culture. From the team strengths generally comes the desire to focus on the “pillars” of a project. Beyond strengths and weaknesses and a variable priority of animation as a focus, different studio and team makeup also vary in working practices. Every studio has its own structure, so titles will vary, with many opting for further granularity with senior and junior/associate roles to provide a clear career progression path, but let's look at the different roles one can assume or aspire to as a game animator. Gameplay animators interact with gameplay programmers on a daily basis to bring their playable characters and systems to life. The absolute stage of game development is sending the disc off to gold master for review by the platform holder or uploading to the distribution channel.
