ABSTRACT

In the age of modernization, hypertension is a term known to every individual. It is emerging as one of the major diseases, consequently resulting in a huge number of deaths worldwide. However, people with sufficient knowledge about the disease are not especially numerous. One of the primary problems associated with hypertension is that it causes serious complications. However, individuals with high blood pressure who are suffering from hypertension may neglect treatment because of their limited knowledge about the serious consequences of hypertension. The repercussions of noncompliance with treatment are not realized until they are encountered. Therefore, hypertension is sometimes called the silent killer. To know whether an individual suffers from hypertension, an examination of normal blood pressure is necessary. The human heart efficiently and continuously contracts and dilates to supply blood rich in oxygen and nutrients to the entire body. Every time the heart contracts, oxygenated blood is spurted into the arteries, consequently increasing the pressure of blood in the arteries. Contrary to this, during dilatation, the blood pressure in the arteries drops.
