ABSTRACT

In industrial process plants, the communication technology evolves from simple wired communication, to wireless communication. Industrial plants have used wires for communication with controllers. The three most common open protocols for communication are the highway addressable remote transducer (HART), Foundation Fieldbus, and process field bus. Different from wireless technologies for home and office applications, WirelessHART is internationally recognized as a suitable standard for industrial process control and monitoring applications. Wireless technologies like WirelessHART, international society of automation (ISA)100 Wireless are becoming dominant in industrial process plants. Advancement in wireless technologies and miniaturization of electronic circuits has led to the development of a wide range of devices that are able to stay connected with both local wireless network and Internet. The Internet and cloud service are used to maintain connectivity between the headquarters and remote plant network backbones. The chapter also presents an overview of key concepts discussed in these concepts discussed in this book.
