ABSTRACT
As has been explained in the previous chapters, the earthquake effects are felt on buildings as a direct result of the ground shaking. During the evolution of earthquake engineering, these effects have been controlled by the concepts of strength, ductility and damping, which allow the dissipation of energy through the accumulation of damage in appropriately engineered structural members.
