ABSTRACT

Analysis is the fountain of several powerful techniques in applied mathematics. The mathematical concepts defined and developed in this chapter find a variety of applications. Basic concepts in analysis, complex analysis, basics of Cartesian geometry, and Moebius transformation, are discussed in some depth. Properties of polynomials, asymptotic behavior and algorithmic-complexity classes, vector algebra and, vector spaces are revisited from the chapter on abstract algebra. Generalized functions, Fourier series, continuous transform techniques, discrete transform techniques, Faà di Bruno’s formula, and special mathematical functions are also elucidated. Basics of number theory, algebra, and matrices and determinants are also used in this chapter.
