ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how to score the data obtained after a full night of recording. It discuses score sleep-wake stages in the recording of an adult patient. The chapter provides score respiratory events and score leg movements in the recording of an adult patient. It describes Rapid eye movements (REM) sleep behavior disorder, sleep-related brux- ism and rhythmic movement disorder. Scoring of REM sleep is based upon three characteristics—low chin tone, low-voltage, mixed-frequency activity, and rapid eye movements. Respiratory data is gathered to look for abnormalities of breathing during sleep. These include sleep apnea—obstructive, mixed, and central or hypopnea. As an adult person progresses from wakefulness to sleep, he/she passes through various stages of Non-rapid-eye-movement sleep (NREM) sleep. The NREM sleep lasts for approximately 100 minutes and then the REM sleep appears.
