ABSTRACT

While there are several major conferences and trade shows in the game industry around the world, two of the most important are the Game Developer Conference, usually held in San Francisco, and the Electronic Entertainment Expo, usually just referred to as E3, usually held in Los Angeles. These are both great places for anyone wanting to enter game development to rub shoulders with the giants of the industry, to take the initial steps toward creating a network of contacts, and to just learn a lot of things from industry professionals. This chapter discusses the two conferences, outlining what an attendee might expect to discover, how to behave at such conferences, plus how to potentially defray some of the costs.
