ABSTRACT

Since the 1980s, many new iconic images have enriched Japanese culture, often deriving from the West but re-elaborated in an autochthonous key, once again spread by various media, especially animations and comics. While the fortunate series of works based on childhood literature continues to target the youngest audience, the productions of animations in post-apocalyptic environments, as well as the erotic ones that have been enriched with new sub-genres, are mainly addressed to adults. At the same time, internationally appreciated filmmakers of the likes of Kon Satoshi and Kawamoto Kihachiro continue to produce a personal and mature cinema.
