ABSTRACT

Comprehensive reading does require that the people read every word. When the readers read silently, they often skip words; sometimes, they bypass entire sentences or paragraphs without being aware that the readers missed part of the text. One of the best ways to make sure that the peoples read every word on the page is to practise reading out loud to the wall of our room: imagine that they have an interested listener with in the room. Even though many clients find it difficult to provide engineers with written requirements, there are some that do provide detailed written statements of requirements. Furthermore, engineering work often has to be performed so that it complies with contract conditions, recommendations contained in standards, or explicit requirements stated in codes. Words and natural language can never be understood in the same way by every reader. Words are mere symbols, or sounds, associated with ideas in our minds.
