ABSTRACT

Myxoid or mucoid pseudocysts are a result of a leakage of synovial fluid through a breach in the joint capsule of the interphalangeal joint, as a result of excessive hyaluronic acid production due to osteoarthritis or trauma. They manifest as gradually enlarging cystic-like masses, usually well circumscribed, and localized between the proximal nail fold and the distal interphalangeal joint. Sometimes they discharge gelatinous material.
