ABSTRACT

Tunga penetrans is more associated with human infections and is endemic in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa. Tungiasis is more common in feet and legs. It can be observed in the interdigital area, calcaneal area, plantar region, proximal and lateral nail folds, and subungual region. It is characterized by a whitish papule surrounded by erythema and a central, dark point. When the flea dies, the lesion involutes, and a blackish crust appears as a residual lesion.
