ABSTRACT

Flaxseed is a functional food that supplies basic health-giving nutrients, e.g., antioxidant omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, phytoestrogen lignans, the nitric oxide donors L-arginine and cyanogenic glycosides, which help to control blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and protect the endothelial lining of blood vessels. There are varieties of flaxseed that differ from each other in small ways, and there are different ways of consuming flaxseed as a dietary supplement. Clinical treatment applications and dosages are reported.
