ABSTRACT
Over recent years, a plethora of evidence has accumulated in support of the hypothesis that antenatal maternal infection and a subsequent fetal inflammatory response are associated with an increased risk for neonatal brain white matter damage.1-S This chapter is an update on this topic, based on observational and experimental studies. We also offer some speculations regarding possible biological explanations for these findings.
