ABSTRACT
This chapter presents images supported by pointform assessments of the relevant stages of development. These include gross morphology, assessed in the laboratory using the inverted light microscope (LM), digital images of epoxy sections (LM), as well as fine structural assessments that may not be seen routinely, visualized by transmission electron microscopy (EMTEM). For surface observations in scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the reader is referred to atlases by Sathananthan3 and Makabe et al;10 Fluorescent microscopy (FM) is dealt with elsewhere in this book (see Chapter 26).
