ABSTRACT

Hematologic complications are frequent in renal transplant patients. They can involve all types of blood cells and can be triggered by a large number of factors which can cause bone marrow depression or peripheral destruction. Hematologic abnormalities may be mild and reversible or severe and life-threatening. In this chapter the most frequent hematologic abnormalities that may be seen in renal transplant recipients are reviewed, with the exclusion of neoplasias which are treated in Chapter 11.
