In the early 1990s radiation therapy was technically improved so that a dose increase within the prostate gland could be achieved.4-6

Many institutions had suggested that better progression-free survival could be achieved with escalated treatment doses achieved by improvements in treatment planning and delivery technology.7-11

Intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) is a new form of external beam radiotherapy to achieve higher doses in the prostate without increasing side effects.12
