ABSTRACT

IgE-mediated mechanisms. About 35% of children with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis have skin symptoms provoked by food hypersensitivity, and about 6% of asthmatic children have a history of specific food-induced wheezing. However, many adverse reactions to foods (such as cows’ milk) are seldom a result of true allergic reactions. In some cases, symptoms have been presumed to be allergic only because no other cause could be found and/or because the patient’s symptoms improved when the food was withdrawn from the diet.
