ABSTRACT
Coronary heart disease (CHD) kills more than 180,000 people in the
UK and 500,000 in the USA every year. This is not, in itself, a reason
for prevention, because most of these deaths are in the elderly when
other causes of death are prevalent so that preventing one may have
very little impact on life-expectancy and may simply change what is
written on the death certificate.
