In oral and facial surgery a wide variety of plain films are commonly requested. 1. Intra-orals. Useful for diagnosis of dental lesions. Bitewings and
periapicals are the principle films used in diagnosis of dental caries and periapical disease. Standard occlusal projections permit localization of ectopic, unerupted teeth if used in conjunction with a periapical film using a parallax technique.
