ABSTRACT
It is important to be aware of the terminology used when talking about children with special needs. The WHO has provided useful definitions:
• A disorder is a medically definable condition or disease. • An impairment is any loss or abnormality of psychological, physiological or
anatomical structure or function. • A disability is any restriction or lack of ability to perform an activity in the
manner or within the range considered normal for a human being. • A handicap is the impact of the impairment or the disability on the person’s
everyday activities.
