ABSTRACT

The epididymis is the convoluted tube from the testis that becomes the vas deferens; it is important for the transport and maturation of sperm from the testis. Infection of the epididymis is not uncommon in elderly men with bladder outflow obstruction and lower urinary tract infection (usually due to prostatic enlargement) but it can also occur in younger and sexually active males. The predominant organisms vary according to age.
