ABSTRACT
Medical research involves the measurement of biological variables such as blood pressure, plasma urea, birth weight, etc. Clearly, measurements should reflect the true, underlying value of the variable under scrutiny as closely as possible, if the research findings are to be regarded as reliable. It is therefore important to understand the factors that may affect the accuracy of measurements in research.
