ABSTRACT

Page 77 showed the mean arterial pressure (MAP) values of 75 patients recovering from general anaesthesia and the distribution of the data was illustrated by means of a frequency histogram. The shape of the histogram emphasized two important features of the distribution. Firstly, the observations were randomly dispersed and secondly, they tended to cluster around a central point. When describing continuous data, therefore, it is essential to choose and calculate appropriate measures of both central value (central tendency) and dispersion.
