The one sample t test, like all other t tests, assumes that the sample is taken from a population with a normal sampling distribution.
Worked example 1 Table 2 gives the baseline serum cholesterol data for 10 patients who are to be entered
into a trial of a new cholesterol-lowering drug. The mean value of serum cholesterol in the general population is believed to be 5 mmol/1.
