A fracture is a break in the continuity of a bone. A long bone consists of four regions: diaphysis, metaphysis, epiphyseal plate and epiphysis.
Diaphysis
The shaft of the bone.
Metaphysis
The often splayed end of the bone between the diaphysis and epiphyseal plate.
