ABSTRACT
Unrecognized abdominal injury is a frequent cause of preventable death after trauma. A high index of suspicion is required as signs are often subtle, or masked by other injuries, alcohol, or drugs. As many as 20% of patients with acute haemoperitoneum have benign abdominal findings when first examined in the Accident and Emergency department. Early evaluation by a surgeon is essential.
