ABSTRACT
Acute retinal necrosis (ARN) is a necrotizing retinopathy with potentially devastating visual consequences. It usually occurs in the immunocompetent but has also been reported in immunocompromised patients with autoimmune disorders, cancer and organ transplants. It is infrequently seen in HIV infection. The main sight-threatening complication is retinal detachment, although an optic neuropathy can occur.
