ABSTRACT

FERDINAND VON HEBRA was born in Moravia, in 1816. He received his medical education at the University of Vienna and was graduated in 1841. As an assistant to the famed Skoda, he was placed at first in charge of patients afflicted with scabies. His interest in dermatology grew, and within four years he had proposed his classification of skin disease based upon the pathological anatomy, a classification which immediately superseded those that had gone before, including that of Willan, although Hebra had the greatest respect for the English master, and retained much of his nomenclature and descriptive methods.
