ABSTRACT

WALTER GEORGE SMITH was born in Dublin in 1844. He was educated in Trinity College, and took his M.B. degree in 1867. Like most Dublin physicians he did not limit himself to any special branch of medicine, but he took a special interest in dermatology, and was most sought after for his knowledge in this field. His powers of observation are well attested to in his original description of monilethrix which we have included here. He also devoted much time to Materia Medica, and as professor of this subject was one of the first to base his lectures on the newer concepts of physiology and biochemistry, which he followed zealously.
