ABSTRACT
BRUNO BLOCH was born January 19, 1878, in Endingen, Switzerland. At the age of 22 he received his M.D. from the University of Basel. After a period of general medical training under His in Basel, he turned to dermatology and spent four years in the Berlin, Vienna, Paris, and Berne dermatologic clinics. In the latter city he came under the influence of Josef Jadassohn with whom he maintained a life long friendship. Returning to Basel in 1908 he took charge of the University Dermatological Service, and eight years later he took over the newly created Chair of Dermatology in Zurich, which post he held until his death, April 10, 1933.
