ABSTRACT
Patients with disorders of smell are often very troubled by their condition. They are also at risk from fire and dangerous gases and so should be encouraged to have smoke and gas alarms at home.
Nasal obstruction, especially nasal polyps, can cause problems with smell, which is reversible. Pateints with an intranasal foreign body may have a characteristic odour noticed by others, but not by themselves.
