ABSTRACT

Whilst taking a history it is simple to observe the patient for signs of breathlessness, hoarseness, nervousness, for coarse features of hypothyroidism or acromegaly, and to note their ability or otherwise to breathe through the nose. The face can give many clues including the allergic nasal crease and allergic salute (Figures 4.1 and 4.2). In allergic children, extra lines are seen under the eyes. Frequently there is also a high-arched palate in the allergic child whose face may well be pale, dry skinned and may show signs of atopic dermatitis (Figure 4.3).
