ABSTRACT

A few patients, for example those with seasonal allergic rhinitis, can be diagnosed on the basis of history and examination alone. Others require investigations to confirm or refute a putative diagnosis made on the basis of history and examination. The possible tests include:

Allergy tests and other blood tests are covered in this chapter. Airway tests are discussed in Chapter 6 and tests for the mucociliary apparatus, nitric oxide test and tests for cystic fibrosis will be found in Chapter 7. Chapter 8 covers imaging and the remainder of the tests are described in Chapter 9.
