ABSTRACT

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common arrhythmia. Its prevalence increases with age, from about 2% in the general population, to 5% in people older than 65 years, and 10% in people older than 75 years.1,2 It may occur as a single episode, a series of recurrent episodes (‘paroxysmal’ AF), or continuously (‘permanent’ or ‘chronic’ AF).
