URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS Acute urinary tract infection may be limited to the lower urinary tract, but persistent or recurrent cases often progress to involve the renal pelvis and parenchyma, producing pyelonephritis. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are most common between 2 months and 2 years of age and are much more frequent in girls than in boys.
