ABSTRACT

Douglassectomy represents an essential technique for treating an elytrocele. Since it is necessary, but not sufficient, it must be associated in a second operative stage with a suspension of the vaginal vault according to Richter. The procedure consists of a resection of the elytrocele’s hernial sac via a vaginal approach. It is performed after a vaginal hysterectomy, in the case of a prolapse with the uterus in place, or represents the first stage in the case of a prolapse of the vaginal dome occurring as a consequence of hysterectomy.
