The outstanding achievements in molecular and cellular biology are continuously providing

new information on the factors determining the cause and the progression of the most

important diseases. In this scenario, a new field has emerged, i.e., molecular imaging

that pursues the in vivo visualization of molecular events occurring at cellular and subcellular

level [1]. The possibility of visualizing a molecule that represents the signature of a given

disease is an outstanding breakthrough in the diagnostic protocols currently followed in

clinical settings.
