ABSTRACT
Surgicel was not applied to the suture line in these cases, but I do like to line the arteriotomy with a long strip of Surgicel gauze in every case prior to closing the sheath. Likewise, I place a Hemovac, which is removed on the first postoperative day, in the carotid sheath directly over the artery.
