ABSTRACT

A different, closer view shows a superior thyroid artery encircled with Potts tie. In this case, the vessel has already been opened, exposing the plaque and lumen in the common and internal carotid arteries. The isolated hypoglossal nerve is also clearly shown. Note that in this open vessel, no backbleeding can be seen, indicating that Potts tie is effective in securing and obliterating the lumen of the superior thyroid artery.
