ABSTRACT
Anorectal diseases are common presenting problems to a surgeon. The symptoms can range from causing an annoyance to causing severe lifestyle limitations and lifethreatening sepsis. A thorough understanding of the normal anatomy and physiology of the anorectum is a prerequisite to understanding the pathophysiology and treatment of anorectal disease.
