ABSTRACT
Spinal cord injury (SCI) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in modern society. Injuries result in significant and permanent neurologic deficits, and the functional consequences can be devastating. Although there are a number of causes, the focus of this chapter is on traumatic cord injury. The following is a summary of the prevailing concepts in pathophysiology and treatment of traumatic SCI.
