ABSTRACT

Over recent years the applications and indications for endovascular therapy have expanded.

Endovascular techniques have become more sophisticated in parallel with developments in

equipment and devices. Learning and adapting endovascular skills is essential for modern

vascular practice, and surgical and radiological interventions should no longer be considered in

isolation. Rather, they should be seen in combination, complementing one another, expanding

the range of options available for treating common vascular problems. Acute lower limb

ischemia, a problem previously seen as predominantly surgical rather than radiological, is one

area where a combined approach can be very successful. An in-depth knowledge of surgical

and radiological techniques combine to offer increased flexibility in the management of

acute ischemia.
