ABSTRACT
The sole aim of inferior vena caval (IVC) filters is to prevent pulmonary emboli (PE) reaching
the heart and lungs from the drainage area of the IVC, which includes the deep veins of the legs,
the deep veins of the pelvis, the ovarian and renal veins. The aim of use is to diminish the
mortality and morbidity of pulmonary embolism.
