DEVIATIONS The usual meaning of the word “deviation” is a departure from established plans, goals, or routes. In the GMPs, while not specifically defined, the word means a failure to meet an established specification or to properly follow a prescribed procedure. Deviations can be either accidental or deliberate. An example of a deliberate deviation would be a necessary temporary and planned departure from existing SOPs to make emergency repairs.
