It is acceptable, and often advantageous, to have outside companies handle specific (or even all) functions for a firm. Obtaining services from an outside source is often called “outsourcing” or “contracting out.” As discussed in detail below, it is usual to spell out in detail the functions, duties, responsibilities, and fees for such services in a formal contract, which is where the terms “contractor” and “contract services” originate.
