ABSTRACT

It is obvious that the physical plant and grounds do indeed play a prominent role in product quality. One must do what is feasible to eliminate the possible entry of contaminants in the first place, and further, to take positive steps to avoid spreading dirt, dust, and other forms of contamination from area to area within the facility. While firms building a completely new facility have the distinct advantage of being able to plan the size, layout, and construction details, since constructing a new facility is both costly and time-consuming, what is more usual is to take whatever steps as appropriate to renovate, upgrade, and refurbish existing plants, and to also do what is needed to keep the facility in a good state of maintenance.
