ABSTRACT
Neuropathic pain is often a difficult and intractable problem in diabetic persons.
It appears in both type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus, sometimes early in the course of
the disease. Although primarily seen in diabetes clinics or general practice,
patients with painful diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN) may seek treatment from
neurologists, pain specialists, anesthesiologists, and others.
