ABSTRACT

This chapter shows how key data ingredients are often found, collected, measured, and incorporated. And like a great batch of warm cookies, the results of applying a solid data foundation to the Standard Template are often more than the sum of the parts. The data needed to establish the initial patient stocks can come from a variety of sources, many of which are readily available to most pharmaceutical firms. Many pharmaceutical companies already purchase data from the sources or have in-house resources to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each. Integrated claims databases, especially of the longitudinal variety, can be broadly leveraged by pharmaceutical organizations to support analyses across therapeutic areas and functions. The identical methodology to determine each time period’s Treatment Change Matrix can be applied, and the differences in results are likely to give an indication as to the magnitude and direction of key marketplace dynamics.
